Galantamine for Lucid Dreaming Review & How to Use
Sometimes referred to as “the Lucid Dreaming pill”, Galantamine is a nootropic alkaloid derived from certain flowering plants, primarily Galanthus Caucasicus, but also some varieties of Narcissus and Lycoris. Galantamine is popular for its ability to promote very vivid dreams. It also promotes a state that allows you to control your dreams and recall them in detail upon awakening. It works by raising Acetylcholine levels so the duration of REM sleep is extended. By extending REM sleep, dreaming activity is also increased, and you become more likely to be self-aware and able to control what happens in the dreams. Stacking Galantamine with Choline increases these effects. How exactly does Galantamine work, and how much should be taken to induce lucid dreaming? Is there anything else you should do or take to increase your chances of achieving this state?
Galantamine is an alkaloid compound taken from the flowers of certain plants, primarily Galanthus Caucasicus. It is a popular nootropic, but it has a number of clinical benefits, particularly as a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and other causes of age-related cognitive decline. It is not a cure, as there is currently no known cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but it can alleviate many symptoms and slow the progress of these conditions. Alzheimer’s disease patients report clearer thinking and improved memory, both short and long-term. Galantamine is classified as an Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that has been shown to improve cognitive function, increase learning capacity, and extend concentration and attention span.
Using Galantamine to Lucid Dream
Lucid dreaming is a dream state in which you are consciously aware that you are dreaming. Awareness that you are dreaming to control your experience, practice visualization techniques, or experience wish fulfillment. Some users experience intensely vivid dreams that may be highly unrealistic and may wake with very detailed memories of the dream. There are many reasons why one might wish to use supplements to induce lucid dreams, and Galantamine has been clinically proven to be an effective way to induce this stream state, especially when used with certain techniques.
Dreams are the result of a number of different neurotransmitters that all work together to create new experiences based on memories. Stages of sleep and what you do not dream are regulated by serotonin, the neurotransmitter responsible for regulating mood. As you enter REM sleep, you are experiencing a surge of Acetylcholine in the brain. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter responsible for perception, concentration, muscle activity, and memory storage. Increased Acetylcholine is associated with increased REM sleep, and increased dream activity.
Research indicates that acetylcholine is in the process of creating new experiences via memory consolidation, leading to more intensely vivid and detailed dreams, and helping you remember more details of your dreams in the morning. Lucid dreaming depends upon working memory which is also regulated by Acetylcholine. So by increasing the amount of Acetylcholine in the brain, you increase your dreaming activity and become more aware of your dream state.
How to take Galantamine for Lucid Dreaming
Because Galantamine increases the activity of acetylcholine in the brain, it can be highly effective for inducing sittings. Galantamine works by inhibiting the action of Acetylcholinesterase. After a molecule of Acetylcholine has carried a message from one neuron to the next, Acetylcholinesterase sweeps up the acetylcholine so that it can be recycled into other components. Galantamine blocks this action soon acetylcholine remains active in the brain longer, and continues to interact with the receptors on the neurons.
Adding choline supplements makes Galantamine even more effective, because choline is used to create acetylcholine. Essentially, Galantamine and choline work on two different sides of the acetylcholine equation.
Wake Back to Bed Dosages
When using Galantamine for dreaming, a Wake-Back-to-Bed strategy is recommended. This strategy involves sleeping for a few hours, waking up after about 4 to 6 hours, taking the supplement and going back to sleep. At this point, your acetylcholine levels will be at their highest, increasing the likelihood of lucid dreaming state. This strategy also helps to minimize the possibility nightmares or reduced sleep quality. Some users report taking Galantamine just before they go to bed in the evening leads to experiencing intense nightmares and or not sleeping well.
To help with this strategy, set an alarm for about five hours after you settle down to sleep. You can make it easier by placing your dose of Galantamine with a glass of water next to the alarm clock. Most users will get great results with 4 to 8 mg, but you can use up to 16 mg if you do not get the desired results from the lower dose. Depending on the specific product that you use, this will equate to one or two tablets.
You can increase your results by adding a Choline supplement such as Alpha GPC or Citicoline at a dose of 250-500 mg. Some people find it works better to split up the Choline and take it throughout the day, as Choline can increase alertness and make going back to sleep more difficult.
After you take your Galantamine it takes full effect on your brain in about an hour. This should be plenty of time for you to get back to sleep and reenter the REM sleep stage. It may take a couple of days of Galantamine use before you experience lucid dreams that it may take up to a week of regular use before achieving consistent dreams.
It takes around 48 hours for Galantamine to completely leave the system. For this reason, some users recommend taking Galantamine every other day instead of every day. If you find that Galantamine causes sleep disruptions, you may wish to only use it when you do not have to be up and alert early in the morning.
Adverse Effects of Galantamine
In addition to helping people achieve lucid dream states, Galantamine is also known to improve memory, attention span, learning capacity, and reasoning ability. Many users report not only more vivid dreams, but heightened senses, brighter colors, and richer sounds during the day. These effects will be increased if you combine Galantamine with the choline supplement such as Alpha GPC.
Galantamine is generally considered to be safe for most healthy adult users; however it is possible to experience serious allergic reactions. If you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention.
Occasionally, some users may experience mild side effects including nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, dizziness, or headaches. In most cases, the side effects are mild. If you experience any of these side effects, you may find that adjusting your dose or your ratio of Galantamine to choline will reduce your side effects.
